Hi,
Hello ps3hax members! I am looking forward to learning a lot from you about CFW's and the ps3. Here's a short story about how I ended up here.
So recently my OFW 4.46 CECH-E01 got the infamous YLOD which I am trying to fix right now. I tried the hairdryer method which lasted 2 weeks per fix, then it decreased to weekly YLOD's. I don't expect it to last very long unless I can get it reballed, in that case I don't feel comfortable sending my ps3 in for repairs to someone who is completely unfamiliar. If I can get it to work I will be using it solely for PSN access. Honestly, I only need it to last until PS4 comes out, which I have already preordered.
Anyways, I got my hands on a 3.55 OFW slim 2501A model which I will be looking to install a CFW on. After doing quite a bit of research I decided to go with Rebug's 4.30.2 CEX version which seems to be a popular choice among members here on the forum. I will be coupling the CFW with mm 4.40 CEX. While doing some intensive research I came across a few questions which I need to ask.
1. Installing a CFW seems really simple, am I missing something here? Should I be doing anything else such as factory reset or anything else of that nature? The PS3 I acquired is a used model off ebay.
- Verifying PS3 is on OFW 3.55 => Install CFW using manual USB update via XMB => Done
2. Is there any noticeable difference in playing backups via internal HDD vs USB external? This is probably more of an issue for larger games such as U3.
3. Does Showtime for PS3 support MKV format via USB? And how does it compare with PS3 media server for those of you who have tried both?
Please help.
Thanks!
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
